How to use Hedgie's English Quest
A self-study path through the IEO Class 3 workbook, designed for a 10-year-old to work through mostly on their own, with you checking in.
The learning loop (every chapter)
- Story: a short Bramblewood story introduces the idea in context, before any rules.
- Big ideas: 3–5 concept cards with examples, a "Hedgie's trick" (memory aid), an "Olympiad trap" (common wrong answer) and a quick check.
- Mind map: the whole chapter on one page. Ask your child to explain it back to you.
- Flashcards: retrieval practice. "Not yet" cards go to the Review Burrow.
- Book mission: do the workbook questions with a pencil, then self-check with the answer key (each answer has a "why").
- Wrap-up: summary, "Teach Hedgie" (explain in your own words) and a confidence check.
- Quiz: Sprout (warm-up) → Explorer (Olympiad style) → Hedgehog Hero (HOTS/stretch, Class 4–5 level), plus a 60-second Speed Round.

About the exam (SOF IEO)
The 2025 Class 3 paper has 35 questions in 60 minutes across: Word & Structure Knowledge, Reading, Spoken & Written Expression and the Achievers Section (harder, 2 marks each). There is no negative marking, so encourage a sensible guess over a blank.
Good to know
- Progress (quills, stars, notes, mistakes) is stored in this browser only. Use the same device and browser each time.
- Works offline. With internet you also get nicer fonts and Lottie celebration animations.
- 🔊 buttons read text aloud using the device's voice. Great for homophones and spelling.
- The "Show / hide all" button on answer-key pages is for you; encourage your child to check one question at a time.
- Praise effort and strategy ("you read every option!") more than scores.
